Beauty | Glossier

I don’t know what it is but buying cosmetics online just doesn’t seem right without having an idea of what it’s like. I don’t know why I feel like this. When I knew I was in New York I had to stop by Glossier, UK shopping started a while ago but I knew very little about the products so I had to get a feel for them in store. I really want to buy into this brand, I love the concept, branding and the packaging, plus the idea of minimalist make up is right up my street but can I make it work in theory. I do love a good bit of slap, perhaps it’s a subconscious thing, I hate my freckles and dryness so I want to just cover them up.

When you head to Lafayette Street, NY, you’ll see the Glossier signs, they stand it most on the street. As you walk into the building, there is a hanger of bags with a load of pink bubble wrap bags and a staff member telling you to go into the elevator and take it to the penthouse, why yes I will. We arrived in to everything light pink, even more yes! We walked around for a few minutes tested a few products, my favourite thing is that they have sample brushes for boy brow and also make up remover when you’ve covered your hand in lipstick. I quickly decided what I wanted (I already had an idea before I came) and asked someone how I got he products to go to the wee till (or pay for anyone outside of Northern Ireland) she looked at me like I was crazy, “you can order & pay with me” she said while in a pale pink boiler suit and converses. Once I was over the outfit, I began to understand that this was the apple of cosmetics. I ordered on her iPad then stood to the side and waited for them to call my name. A very different experience.

With bushy brow dreams, boy brow was exactly what I had set my sights on. It has a small fine brush which picks up a good amount of product. My favourite thing is that it doesn’t leave your brows crispy like hairspray has been added to them. I got brown and but it doesn’t add too much colour. The price point does make me a little nervous. I think it’s a mid brand but with a high end price point. Once I’m finished this one I do think I will be making a repeat purchase even though the price does put me off, it delivers against my expectation so it’s a yes from me.

I’d seen the boy brow in the phase 2 make up set so thought why not try out the other products as well. It come with the generation g lipstick. A sheer lipstick which is perfect for work or a light make up day. I got zip, if you know me at all, I’m a big fan of a red, easily over 20 different reds from various brands and shades. This red is beautiful, it has a cool tone to it and because it’s sheer means that it’s not too much for work. It is buildable so you can get a good amount of colour on. It’s not that long lasting but what I do like is that it wears off evenly not leaving a outer line. I loved the consistency of this lipstick while I was there so much that I added another one to my basket and got generation g in like as well, it’s a cool pink tone which I’ve got for everyday wear. I previously had been wearing MAC lipstick everyday but what I love about Glossier is that it’s not tested on animals and vegan friendly, so they’re kinda talking my language. The lipsticks are matte but also really moisturising which is a win win for me, that really does out way the long lasting factor.

Lastly the third item in the phase 2 make up set was the stretch concealer. It’s an oily consistency which as they say is flexible. I’ve been applying it with my ring finger under my eye and the blending with a beauty blender. I need to build on that. It’s just not enough coverage for my bags, life I work full time and lash in the evenings so my bags are the size of a 2.55 Chanel so I need all I can get to cover them. It’s just not enough on its own. It also feels oily as well and for me with very dry skin this does help but I also powder up once it’s applied as I think it moves around. I like make up to stay and at least look human after the end of a 9 hour day. If you want a dewy finish, this is the one for you. Out of all the things I bought, honestly, this is my least favourite, but I don’t hate it. I’ve concluded that I need ALL of the make up on my face so sheer concealer isn’t for me, not a repurchase but perfect for holiday or a weekend light make up application.

Outside of the phase 2 make up I also bought two of the balm dot com lip balms. I do love a lip balm. I got coconut and cherry. The cherry has a little bit of colour to it but doesn’t leave too much on your lips, just enough. This is without a doubt my favourite lip balm ever. It’s super moisturising and long lasting, well worth the investment.

I’d like to try out the cream blush they have and I’m crying out for a bronzer. I know they have a skincare range which some people just love but I’m dubious about bloggers who have been sent these items and are raving about them. I have heard it’s great for dry skin but with my skin changing like the weather here in Northern Ireland, I currently have a skincare routine that is working for me so I’m not willing to take the chance on any changes. I also seen the body wash and at £15, no thanks, that’s just ridiculous, but hell yeah it would look nice in a bathroom, speaking of which I’m hoping to renovate ours this year so maybe I’ll treat myself when that happens.

With shipments of over £25 for free, I think I could easily rack up that spend, we all know the shipping fee is what puts us off at the checkout so free shipping is a dream. It’s worth a try and there are so star products here.

Beauty | Feeling radiant this weekend

Last night I had the delight of going to Radiance Beauty & Day Spa launch of their own skincare range, what a great start to the weekend, cocktails and canapés. This was my first blogger event. I was excited in the build up that week, well it was on Friday so I was getting ready for the weekend. As Friday approached, I had a presentation at work (stressed much?!?) and then once that was over I was heading straight there. I began more nervous as I got closer. I sat in my car putting on a little bit more make up and became paranoid about what I was wearing. Oh word, anxiety up to an 8/10. Luckily I had spoke with Leigh earlier in the week and I found out that she was going, perfect time for a catch up. But why was I so nervous, I’ve been put in these situations before and I can talk to just about anyone, shake out of it.

We all know the Lisburn Road isn’t the best place for parking so I parked up the street and walked down towards the event. I could see a marquee in front of the shop, the event looked fabulous. As I walked in, I was greeting with a delicious chocolate martini, great start. I then spoke to Christine the owner and WOW! Christine was in the most gorgeous gold sequins full length gown, so look fabulous and was so welcoming, what was I worried about. I then seen her gorgeous daughter in a similar gold sequins outfit, anything gold and I’m yours. Christine told me about some of the informative talks that were happing inside so I went in to see their new range of skincare and find out a bit more about it.

Alongside the expansion of its Upper Lisburn Road premises, which is stunning, the gold font on the back of the chairs had me sold, the salon is launching its own signature skincare product range. Radiance is a results driven skin care collection, which has been carefully formulated using clinically proven, highly active ingredients. These products are paraben free, contain no animal by-products and are not tested on animals, A-MAZING. Testing on animals is a big no no for me so this skin care range is perfect. The skincare industry is extremely competitive but this puts even the top line collections to the test as it has been designed, developed and produced by a team of dermatologists, scientists and pharmacists to ensure it is among the best in its field.

Two if the new products stood out to me. Firstly, hydrate is an ultra nourishing serum and is perfect for dehydrated and ageing concerns, this contains hyalauronic acid which will attract moisture and bind it to the skin leaving it soft, supple, nourished and glowing.  Because I have such dry skin, this blend is perfect for me, I drink so much water in the day but never seem to be able to get the moisture into my skin. This contains a cocktail of anti-ageing ingredients to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and prevent future signs of ageing, definitely something I’m worried about as I begin to make my way to my thirties.

Then there is recover, a night cream that provides some much needed extra care for skin to help it repair and renew from the stresses of the day whilst you sleep, all that work while I’m catching up on my beauty sleep. Our signature night cream has been specifically developed to rejuvenate through its antioxidant activity. Rehydrating skin to allow over night recovery and reveal a softer more youthful appearance for the new day ahead.

We got the most gorgeous gift bags with some samples, the bag alone sold me, gold foil printing is divine. I was delighted to meet Steph as well as some other amazing bloggers around Belfast, it’s strange because we all know each other but most of these girls, I had never met before, its fantastic how we can all be brought together. I also got to catch up with my school friend, Ashlee from Oh So Femme, but we won’t think about how long it’s been since we were in school together.

Thanks Radiance Belfast for the invite, I was delighted to attend and can’t wait to try some of the products. I had a ball, the cocktails we delicious, canapés were to die for, not to mention the fire dancers, talk about impressive.

Style | Not feeling so blue

It’s coming into that time of year when the woolly jumpers, boots and coats come out. If there’s one thing my mum would say is that I don’t need any more coats and (don’t tell her) but she is right. Although with that in mind it hasn’t ever stopped me. So I’ve decided to start buying.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Not one to give in to the dark colours, navy, black and burgundy too early, I’ve opted for a lighter colour to kick the autumn off. Light blue is perfect to have the memory of summer but keeps me warm for the colder days ahead. You see the reason I have so many coats is because they don’t go with all my outfits. All be it this colour isn’t as versatile a your standard camel coat but I’ve been wearing it with navy, grey, black and white, although the white jeans are long gone now.

As I’m secretly and old age pensioner I’m obsessed with being warm. Gone are the days of leaving the house in winter with no coat…what was I thinking! This coat definitely delivers. It’s a faux silk lining and and is think enough to provide you with a little warmth. I can still get a chunky knit under it as well so I’ve no fear of the cold now.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I just love the fit, it’s a boyfriend style coat so understandably it’s a bigger fit, I did go for a size smaller as it seemed slightly over sized in a size 10. It’s a bit tight to button closed but I rarely would button it anyway. The one chunky silver button adds a luxurious touch. I’ve styled it with a few brooches including my Chanel brooch and I just love it.

Now where did I get it…Tesco Florence & Fred. Yes that’s right, I picked it up when I was doing my weekly Tesco shop. Im beginning to get worried about the amount of clothing I’m beginning to buy from Tesco, but honestly it’s too good to walk past. It only cost £35 so it’s a bargain as well! At first I thought I wasn’t spending enough time in town to compare but now I have had it for the last few weeks it’s just honestly a bargain for such a good quality coat. Best part is when I bought Chris had no idea as it came out of our account as a Tesco purchase…result! More room for some online shopping now!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

So the next time you’re in doing your shopping give F&F a swing by, you may just find a bargain. Anyone who has asked me about the coat can’t quite believe where it’s from and I’ve seen a few more in there that I may just pop on and try on.

Change of a name?

While I’m still pondering the thought of whether I’ll change my name when I get married I thought it was time for a new name for something else. My blog (!)

It’s official, I’ve gone full Taylor Swift and I’ve decided to take the plunge and change the name of my blog, Instagram and anywhere else you will find me. It’s taken a while but I just don’t feel that The Little Lash Room really encompasses everything I do now. By no means am I a high flying blogger, in fact I don’t even like calling myself a blogger, I’m only just trying it on for size. If you’re lucky you’ll get 1 blog a week and lots of Instagram pictures of my home, flowers and Piper the pup. Rarely will you find a picture of my eyelash work, pictures from Pinterest of Beyonce crying because she can’t get an eyelash appointment or why I think you have to come to me because you’ll look fabuLASH when you leave. The reason for the change is exactly that, I’m a fraud, when you visit the little lash rooms social media pages you won’t have a reference point, you girls are fab at putting your trust in me. And as most of you girls know, if you’ve been to me, we talk way more about life and love than eyelashes themselves.

Don’t get me wrong I love lashing and I absolutely love all my clients who have supported me over the last 2 and a bit years. This is by no means a sob story that I’m no longer doing lashes, I’m definitely still going to be working every night and weekend. If anything I’m just much more than lashing now, eyelash extensions do not define me, I’m sharing things about my life as they happen, no different to anyone else I guess.

So the new name Strand & Stripes, where did it come from. I’m still keeping a bit of eyelash love there as many of you know each extension will be added to an individual eyelash hair strand. This is the only technique I use as it’s the safest and allows for nature fall out and growth with no damage to your natural lashes. And of course for anyone who has followed me for a while you will know that I’m fond of a breton or two or three or four…. It’s as simple as that.

So there you have it. A change is as good as a rest so there seems to be no better time than the present to take the plunge.

As always, lashings of love

Beauty | Charlotte Tilbury just take my money!

A few weeks ago I journeyed into town after a hard days work and thought I deserved a treat. I needed to pick up a few bits and while I was there I thought I may as well have a look in the sale. What harm could that have.

I walked with stealth through House of Fraser, straight past Mulberry (well I’d seen all there sale items online, no point in looking there). I came to an abrupt stop, right at the Charlotte Tilbury counter. I remembered a friend of mine recommended the overnight bronze and glow mask. When I seen her with no make up on, she looked amazing, glowy and tanned skin, I had to have this miracle worker. But of course I didn’t stop there. I decided to buy the all in one palette as well. £87 later I walked out, happy with my new buys…I then splurged a little more in the sales.

But I’m not here to talk about my other purchases for it is Charlotte Tilbury that has really impressed me. I’ve bought a few things from her, mostly lipsticks and I love how every time I hear her speak she addresses us a darlings!

The packaging is devine, slap on a bit of foil printing and I’ll pay double, it’s simple. The packaging on the overnight glow mask did throw me a little. Clearly there was a rebrand at some stage before this product was launched. On the tube a white and gold foiled sticker was carefully applied, not noticeable to the disconcerting. It most certainly hasn’t put me off.

The overnight mask states that a thin layer should be applied over the face and décolletage, washing hands afterwards. Having very dry skin, normally face tans leave dry patches around my face but this couldn’t have been more hydrating. I woke up in the morning with a natural glow, one which I would have been happy to run to the shops with no make up whatsoever. It took the grey look out of my skin. I applied for 3 nights and left for 5 days. No funny fake tan smell either which is a huge plus for me! It wears off naturally with no patchy marks. I do my normal skin care routine with cleanser, toner & moisturiser afterwards, it didn’t notice this having an impact on it, but the glow is so natural, I doubt it would.

Moving on to the instant look in a palette. I’m no make up artist but I do love a new palette. It’s taken me years to allow myself other eye shadow palettes without feeling like I’m cheating on the Urban Decay Naked range. There’s no doubt I still love it, and it is a tough one to beat. In all honesty I just never felt like I needed another range of colours, I keep it fairly neutral. But this palette was different, it’s not just eyes it’s so much more.

By combining eyes, blush, bronze and highlight, it’s the perfect palette for travelling and is perfect for when I spend a bit of time away from home every now and again. I brought very minimal make up with me last week as we only brought hand luggage with us (light packers) and it was perfect for the whole trip! Perfectly pigmented and this will be my new go to for the foreseeable.

It’s started to make me think about anything else I’m missing from my Charlotte Tilbury collection, I’ve focused most of my time wondering about my next Sephora buys that I forgot all about the fabulous brands we have here at home. Plus the staff in House of Fraser were so friendly and helpful, if they had shown me anything else I would have added that to my basket as well.

What other Charlotte Tilbury products would you recommend? I think it’s time for another visit!

Beauty Edit | Sephora Splurge (again)

Upon landing in America, it never takes me long to sniff out a Sephora and as I find it I can almost hear the money falling out of my bank account.

My perception on beauty has changed since I have got older. Naturally enough. I’ve began to work out that no matter how much I conceal and powder over, nothing will help if your base isn’t in good condition. I’ve learnt a lot about skincare of the last year of so from countless YouTube videos and even more articles. Maybe my budget has changed as I’ve got older and I really won’t fall into the new products so easily and I’m more keen to spend a little more on a good cleanser and moisturiser than a foundation. First thing I purchased was the Clinique 3 step guide after I watched Leigh’s Instagram story on just how good it was…influencers alert…I’m easily persuaded. I started using it straight away and I can tell you Leigh knows exactly what she’s talking about it. I’ve since bought full sizes.

Keeping in the theme of skincare, I picked up a number of face masks to help with dehydrated skin when I got back. The Sephora face masks are super cheap but really good quality. I haven’t found a comparison in the UK yet so I’ll have to keep stocking up each time I go.

I also had to pick up another IT cosmetics your skin but better foundation. I bought a medium this time thinking that I’ll be a little more tanned throughout the summer. I find this foundation divine after I first purchased it back in January when I was in New York. I’m still not finished my first tube which I use every single day. With my increased use of retinol, each morning I use a factor 15 SPF and then add the CC cream which is of course a factor 50 SPF, perfect to help defy aging skin and reduce the number of freckles I start collecting throughout the summer. I’ve also just seen that we can now get IT cosmetics in the U.K. so I’m delighted that I don’t need to stock up when I’m in the US.

Although I absolutely love this foundation, I journeyed into the Make Up For Ever territory, Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation. One of which I’m not as familiar with but seem to see on just about every YouTuber who then he beautifully flawless skin and has a much fuller coverage and I believe has a longer staying power (18 hours I’m told by the Sephora assistant however I’m sceptical but I’ll put it to the test). Of course no liquid foundation would be perfect without a setting powder which of course I bought. I’ll be keeping this for nights out as it’s a bit heavy for me everyday but I’ll keep you posted on my progress.

I bought another Tarte eyeliner which is my favourite. I don’t usually wear eyeliner everyday but I do have a go at the weekend at a flick. I first bought this is January, with my IT cosmetics CC cream, and again it’s not yet finished but I love that it has both a kohl pencil, perfect for tight lining, as well as the perfect liquid liner which slides on so easily and allows an easy flick, even for an amateur like me. Most of my lovely lash ladies will ask me about eyeliner and I do have to say when my lashes are about 1 week before infills I do tight line most days just to fill in gaps rather than using mascara.

Finally I love the section in Sephora around the checkout where you can pick up sample sizes to try products that you maybe don’t want to invest in right away. I picked up the tarte blush and lip stain, I haven’t tried them out yet but I’ll be giving them a go this weekend. I also picked up a Caudalie set of moisturiser and serum to try out since I love their beauty elixir spray so much.

A non Sephora purchase (!) but it kind of falls into the beauty category was this canvas bag I got from Sugarboo & Co. they have the most gorgeous slogans and it was so difficult to pick just one. Just go and have a look and imagine decorating your house with all of their lovely items.

Until next time Sephora.

Shopping in New York | Beauty Edit

New York is amazing for sightseeing but we also did some shopping while I was there (it would be rude not too!). I did see the usual Zara and H&M but with limited space in my suitcase I reserved the room for brands that we cannot get in the UK, I’m going to make a statement that maybe won’t sit well with some people but I don’t really like the women’s clothes in the US, other than brands that we have at home, they just really aren’t for me. I had imagined Olivia Palermo fashionistas walking the streets but I didn’t see it, maybe because it was so frigging cold! Honestly I didn’t buy as much as I anticipated (I’m sure Chris is delighted), most things that I can get at home were much more expensive in New York and when the exchange rate isn’t in our favour that really doesn’t help either. In saying all this it didn’t stop me from heading to a few of my favourite shops!

First stop Sephora, as we were staying in Time Square, where there was a huge Sephora and there is a beautiful older building which Sephora is in on 5th Avenue, the options are endless. Having been to the US a few times in the last 6 months, initially I went mad but this time I was very specific in what I was looking for. Thanks to the Anna Edit I had to try the It Cosmetics, your skin but better, a creamy full coverage with my favourite feature, a pump, to dispense the product. So far so good! Of course I bought it on the first day and couldn’t wait to try it on the second. It didn’t feel heavy but covered my pigmentation and give a glowy finish, something I’m not used to with full coverage foundations.

While in Sephora I also picked up the Becca Highlighter. I haven’t really got on to highlighters, I spent a small fortune on the Anastia Beverley Hills contour and highlighter kits and although I love the powder and the cream contour, unfortunately I have yet to use the highlighter more than a few times. My highlight doubts changed after Simone said it was the holy grail of highlighters so I most certainly had to give it a whirl. I love the consistency of the product and have started to use it differently to other highlighters -if I’m not wearing much make up I will put it under my skin to fake a natural glow…it works a treat!

The last thing I bought in Sephora was their face masks, I just love the dry skin mosturising face masks so I made sure I stocked up on them while I was away. Now I have my next few Sunday night facials sorted! I also picked up some Bumble&Bumble sea salt strap and a tangle teaser, silly me, I completely forgot to pack them but another one won’t hurt.

With the weather being so cold outside and inside being so hot with heaters my skin has really felt the consequences. It has been so dry, flaky and altogether gross! While I was in Woodbury Common shopping outlet I called in to the Elizabeth Arden to get some 8 hour cream. At only $10 I bought two, for that price it was well worth it!

aesop-store-by-architecture-outfit-new-york-03

Last beauty stop, Aesop. This was a definite on my list as the last time I stopped by, the shop was closed for lunch and I was devastated. Someone had told me how amazing this brand of skincare was but with a higher price bracket, I didn’t mind, I had read such good reviews I had to give it a go. Plus seeing it around Rebecca from Roses & Rolltops house and it just looked so beautiful, it was the perfect edition to my bathroom, packaging really does mean a lot. We wandered up Madison Avenue and eventually we found it, a quaint store with no fuss, from the moment mum and I walked through the door we were in love before we had even said hello to the girl who helped us. The industrial walls with an old mismatched tiled floor, dark wooden shelves and black rails with an old sink, it was to die for. This was the first shop that I didn’t feel pressured to buy something. The girl asked what we were looking for and I told her about my very dry skin and she picked out a few items and tested them on my hands. No harsh chemicals or alcohols insight. I decided to get the Parsley Seed Facial Cleansing Oil and the Damascan Rose Facial Treatment. They left my skin feeling clean, soft and most importantly hydrated. Since I have started used the oil every couple of days for the last couple of weeks, I have seen a huge change in my skin with no flaking and it seems to be less inflamed. The last thing I bought was the mouth wash, an unnecessary purchase I know, but I just loved the bottle, it looks so medicinal, I doubt it will be used very much just because I really just like the look of it but maybe when I start using it, I may just love it.

Not at all beauty related but I did make a stop in Antropologie *PLEASE COME TO BELFAST*. I easily could have decorated our home with the gorgeous items in store but I kept it to a minimum with very little room in my case, buying a gold initial mug and one of their candlefish candles, it’s official I’m a candle fiend! Anthropologie candles are without a doubt my favourite in terms of burning and smell, I think they burn so evenly throughout and the smell is divine around the house, I can easily smell it upstairs when it is burning in the living room (no offense Jo Malone or Diptyque, I still love you too!). I did spot a ‘Hello Lovely’ marble chopping board but it was easily 3 kilograms so it would definitely have put me over weight…I’ll maybe order it online now I’m home!

Goodbye 2016…Hello 2017

Today on Instagram I have seen lots of amazing posts to highlight how special 2016 was for some people. New Years Eve is the day that we all look back on the year past and look forward to the year ahead. Today I will spend time looking through my jar of happiness to review 2016 in all its glory.

When I think of all the amazing things that happened this year, Chris and I got engaged, I was bridesmaid for my best friend and my cousin, Piper the pup arriving at our house and the havoc she has caused since, continued house improvements, new shoes and handbags, trips with work, the success of the Little Lash Room has grown from strength to strength and a sneaky promotion in work at the end of the year, so yes, 2016 has been pretty flipping great!

But today I can’t help but think about all the people who aren’t posting about their fantastic year. As great as this year has been, its been tough for us and ours very close to us with lose, separation, serious life changing illness and a lost career for some at the end of the year they may themselves feel lost and happy to see the end of this year and most certainly am humbled and grateful that we have made it to the end of this year and overcome these challenges.

For me, New Years is the start of a new chapter, not the end of an era, thats why my jar of happiness is so important to me, to remember the silly things that really did put a smile on my face. I have just about anything in it, from cinema tickets, boarding passes, wedding order of service, receipts and any other artefacts with a memory. I hate new years resolutions but this year one thing I really want to improve upon is time spent and refocus. Each of us are given the same amount of time, and at the moment I don’t use mine to the full of its ability. I want to make a real effect to spend time with friends and family, just grabbing a coffee, taking the dogs out for a walk and go for runs more. I need to refocus. I’ve created a project list of things I would like to complete in 2017, mostly things around the house but the odd new shoes and handbag wish list too, this steams from my mum who sets goals for each year and she always smashes them, no wonder she is my inspiration. So no resolutions per se.

So do yourself a favour, go out and get a big jar and fill it full of memories for 2017, trust me you will not regret it.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year

Last year was the first Christmas we were in our new house, but we were only moved in a month with very little furniture so I didn’t really care about Christmas decorations, in my opinion nothing could make the yellow walls look any better! This year I have went all out. I started early collecting various difference Christmas decorations from Cox & Cox, Marks & Spencers, Home Bargains and now my new favourite shop The Range.

In total it took us about a week to decorate our house, I start small and leave the tree to the end.

Front Door

I have seen lots of love wreaths which people have made but in all honesty I didn’t have the time to make one. I decided to go with my wreath from last year from B&M Bargains. I also added the gold bells which came on a Mulberry present for last year, they are the best bells with the best jingle!

Hallway

In the hallway we added our alternative tree to a wall which usually has picture on the hook.

Plus our radiator cover changed to Winter Wonderland with our jars of snow filled escapes. I decorate my bicycle basket (which probably shows how little I actually I actually cycle) and this time of year it has pine cones, pine, ferns and you guested it fairy lights. My love for wreaths continues and I decided to add an additional M&S wreath to the living room door, it’s made with pine cones and is in a heart shape so I don’t know if I’ll take it down after Christmas it may stay up until spring.

Living Room

Every year we buy a real Christmas tree and the living room is the pinnacle of our Christmas decorations. I bought way to many Christmas decorations, but it made the tree look beautiful, I delighted how it turned out.

I used some cake stands and added some pine cones, dried oranges and leftover decorations to place on a coffee table.

Chris made me this box from old planks and it’s perfect for the table centrepiece, I added pine, ivy and holly with the candles…although they may be a fire hazard.

Let’s get organised

For some time now I have been frustrated with how unorganised my make up and hair products have been. It is the sole reason why every time I’m looking for something in particular, my room then looks like a bomb site as I riffle through boxes and drawers to find something. I’d love to say that it’s always why I’m running late when I’m getting ready…but it is probably just watching Gone Girl…AGAIN!  I decided to do something about it…lets get organised!

Finding suitable storage

I’m one for a challenge and I love nothing more than getting an old piece of furniture and making it into something new, and of course Annie Sloan has made that all so much more accessible. I went to the Yard Shop to find this chest of drawers, it had a few knocks when I got it but I love that, it’s full of character. It was sanded and then painted with Annie Sloan Antoinette. Everything else in this room is Antique White so I thought I would make this piece a statement. I wanted storage not only for my make up but she my hair dryer, curling tongs, heated rollers the works, so I worked out 2 drawers for hair and 2 for all beauty products.

Organising

Take this opportunity to organise your make up, is it old, new, when was the last time you used it, is it in date, what are you missing and need more of (that’s the fun part!). Once I started to organise I became obsessed with finding every piece of make up in my house, I checked the car, coat pockets and handbags (I can’t tell you the number of lipsticks I found in handbags from nights out…WELCOME BACK)!

Cleaning

For those who have been in my lash room, you know it’s not a huge space to work with. I removed all of the drawers, lay them on the floor and  began cleaning my drawers and make up cases, everything was completely disinfected. Jumping from space to space as everything is now laying on the floor I finally felt like I was getting somewhere.

Categorise

Put everything into a category, I started with 3: face, eyes & lips; then I created subcategories:

Face:
Brushes
Foundation
Primers
Concealers
Bronzers
Blusher
Highlighters

Eyes:
Brushes
Shadows & palettes
Eyebrows
Eyeliners
Mascara

Lips:
Lip balm
Lip stick
Lip pencil

This sounds techincal but once you get going it’s really easy and makes adding them to the drawer so much more efficient!

Organise sections and add make up

Using the IKEA HOFTA I was able to segment the drawer to suit the categories I had. I started by splitting the drawer into thirds and then filled the largest of each category then slotting another divider. Simple.

I’ve been using this for the last month and this system really works. I keep my everyday make up in a make up bag in my handbag and then this is the perfect way to store everything else. It’s so much easier to find everything now and I’m encouraged to put everything away in the same place so it stays neat.

Halloween House

HAPPY HALLOWEEN 🎃

This year we have decided to have people round for Halloween and that of course means decorating! After visiting a few shops for Halloween decorations I left feeling underwhelmed with all the paper and plastic decorations that I really didn’t like. Pinterest to the rescue…

I looked through ideas of how to decorate your house for Halloween giving it an authentic autumnal feeling without smear fake blood over every mirror and have skeletons everywhere.

Halloween isn’t my favourite time of year so I wanted to decorate on a budget. I had seen lots of little pumpkins (white pumpkins…AMAZING) and painted pumpkins but buying all of these would have cost a fortune for my decor idea. I used oranges, pine cones, leaves, candles, lights and a sharpie…VOILA.

With a budget of about £10 I had to get creative. I bought lots of oranges and used a sharpie to draw faces on them and placed them amount some pine cones, for the fireplace I added some Christmas lights, simple! After Halloween is over I’m going to slice the oranges and draw them ready for Christmas (PS where has this year gone and how is Christmas coming so quickly).

I went for a walk with the dog and collected leaves, lay them out flat small medium and large to dry for an hour and then added them to a wreath oasis and centrepiece.
How did you decorate your home for Halloween?

This could be a Saturday night selfie when your make up is perfect or when your running around with no make up but you still feel amazing thanks to your eyelash extensions.

Let’s fall

img_2692-1

Last weekend I was heading out on a girls night and no better night to experiment with make up. By experiment I mean procrastinating for 2 hours watching YouTube videos while drinking tea. Saturday was the first day it truly felt like autumn so now was the time to look into more autumnal colours.

A few years ago I bought MAC Cranberry eyeshadow. No doubt some blogger told me to buy and I gave in. I completely fell (no Autumn pun intended) in love with it. The pigment was amazing. It’s the epitome of autumn time but for a long time I was much to scary to take the plunge until now…

Having got to grips with it and experimenting on my hand I decided to give it a go. After applying MAC black track paint pot all over my eye lid up to my socket I packed on the cranberry…Blending is essential if you don’t want to look like Marilyn Manson. I blended for days until I was happy there were no lines. I took a matte bronzer, Benefit Houla and buffed it through the crease to make sure it was completely blended. Added a little bit more black MAC Carbon on the outter corners and blending like crazy again…blending never stops! Add some winged liner and pencil to my waterline and I’m done…voila! Blending is key but more importantly for me is the tape I use. I add medical tape, remove the tackiness on the back of my hand then angle to create the perfect wing. One of my eyes is slightly more hooded than the other so I move it so both eyes look similar. Once everything is done and my life of blending had come to an end I remove them to find a perfectly straight line. If you want you can blend that if it’s too harsh for you but I loved it for this very dramatic look.

Does your make up change with the seasons?

Homeward Bound

I love holidays but I hate flying. Flying is one of my biggest fears mainly because I’m out of control, taking off is terrible, once I’m in the air I’m fine but what goes up must come down and landing for me is even worse.

When travelling to my destination I’m so excited I barely have to think about it, especially when I have new magazines to flick through. Coming home is a different story, for me it is important that I have enough to preoccupy my mind and ensure I’m as comfortable as I can be while I make the journey back to cold Northern Ireland.

Fluffy Socks

I always bring fluffy socks because my feet always get cold  so this way they are nice and cosy for the duration of the flight.

Eye Mask + Travel Pillow

As our flight on the way home is at 2am, its probably best I try and sleep as much as possible. I never find travel pillows that comfortable but until I’m flying first class this will have to do in the meantime. I bought this eye mask when I did my training, the eyes are convex and therefore protects your eyelashes when you are sleeping, but its also tight enough that it doesn’t let in any light.

iPad + Earphones

If I can’t sleep on a flight I will begin to watch a movie or TV show. I invested in an earphone splitter a while ago and it really has been a great investment. This way I’m not watching a movie by myself and someone else can watch it! NOTE: Always have an appropriate movie to watch, you never know who will be sitting around you. Last year on a flight to Malta I decided to watch Wolf of Wall Street, I was sitting in the aisle seat, and other than us group of girls everyone else on the plane was over 60, I don’t think they appreciated the movie :/

Moisturiser

My skin is dry at the best of times and honestly I rarely leave the house without a moisturiser, flying makes it much worse. For everyone the altitude and air conditioning won’t help any ones skin. The best advice I can give is to pack a little moisturiser, I use simple which will re-hydrate my skin as well as drinking lots of water to be sure your looking fresh when you step off the plane no matter how short your journey. If you’re really prepared why not pack a cleanser and wash your face before your flight to ensure its clean you can relax. You can just apply your make up again when you land, if you’re in a rush somewhere, just maybe do the winged eyeliner when you’re back on the ground.
